Around 556 liters of white wine were sold during the first six months of last year but this year a total of 542 liters were sold. Which is 2.5% percent less.
"If we look at the large wine stores in Reykjavik the decrease in white wine sales are around 5.1%, but in Akureyri city in North Iceland there has been a 0.5% increase in white wine sales" said Sigrun Osk. It is worth mentioning that there has been much more sun in North Iceland than in Reykjavik during this summer.
The largest decrease was at the wine store in Austurstraeti, downtown Reykjavik, there the change is 10.6% between years. "These are facts but it is difficult to say something with certainty about them. Maybe one can assume that the weather is a factor" said Sigrun Osk.
In total alcohol sales have decreased by 1.4% this year, compared to last year. Most was sold of beer, or around 6.5 liters, but last year 6.7 million liters were sold during the same period.
There has been a large increase in sales of fruit wine, ciders like Sommersby, sales of that wine went from 58 thousand liters to 118 thousand liters. That is a 103% increase.
