The number of personnel in schools at the tertiary level decreased by 140 (4.6%) between November 2010 and November 2011, and has not been lower since the school year 2005-2006. The number of full-time equivalent jobs decreased by 108 (4.8%) in the same period. On the other hand, the number of students in schools at the tertiary level increased by 1.7% from the school year 2010-2011.

As of June 1st. 2013 the Icelandic National CERT has formally begun its operations. CERT-IS operates within the Post- and Telecom Administration in Iceland in keeping with regulation no. 475/2013, published by the Ministry of Interior and taking effect on June 1st.

Good results of Reykjavik Energy’s (RE – Orkuveita Reykjavikur) operations are becoming entrenched. EBIT for Q1 2013 amounted to ISK 5.1 billion, but were ISK 4.9 billion for Q1 2012. Salaries and other operating expenses for Q1 decreased by 8.4% compared to Q1 2012. Cut-backs in RE´s operations and steady income explain this stability in RE´s performance.

The Icelandic central government (not counting municipalities) owes 1489 bn ISK (~9.4 bn EUR), or around 81.5% of estimated 2013 GDP. But the government has many assets as well. The government took loans to strengthen its foreign currency reserves and the government has also lent money to other institutions.

The Icelandic króna strengthened by 1 percent on Thursday and has not been stronger, against a basket of the main foreign currencies, since 2010. The króna has now strengthened by 12% this year.
