Many nurses have quit their jobs in the past weeks because they were unhappy with their salaries. A contract was recently signed between The National University Hospital of Iceland and the Icelandic union for nurses. Nurses will receive wage increases from 5% and up to 10%.

The contract was signed last night and today the contents of the contract were laid out to the executives at the hospital and the nurses. Ms. Elsa Fridfinnsdottir, chairman of the union says this about the contract "Everybody will receive a wage increase from 4.8% to 9.6% and the average wage increase is 6.4%".

"We are glad that we were able to reach an agreement and we iterated this as far as we thought we could get" said Mr. Fridfinnsdottir.
