Newborn Icelandic lambs - All less than 45 minutes old, the youngest just 10 minutes old
There are 11 national holidays in Iceland this year, but they can range from 9 to 13. The average Icelander works 223 working days a year if all holidays are taken into account. On the average, each person gets 27 vacation days and the national holidays are 11.
Dr. Erpur Snær Hansen, biologist at the South Iceland Institute of Natural History says that puffin hunting in Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) was for years double what would have been sustainable. Puffin hunting has been banned in the islands since 2010.
The 27th Reykjavik Arts Festival (RAF) will be launched today with a newly commissioned sound piece on the quays of Reykjavík harbor, at 5:45 pm. The festival is called: Art, Space & Audience and takes place from May 17th - June 2nd.
An art exhibition will open this weekend in the Sculpture Garden in Reykjavík city center. One of the sculptures is a sound sculpture by artist Finnbogi Pétursson. The piece consists of Reykjavík Mayor's snoring.
Eyþór Eðvarðsson, one of the crew members, interviewed Prof. Gisli Sigurðsson at the Árni Magnússon Institute in Iceland about Auður djúpúðga and Iceland's historical connections with Norway, the Orkney Islands and the Faroe Islands, the countries that we will visit during our voyage.
