Applicable projects should concentrate on:
- Increasing opportunities for academic success among children with Icelandic as a second language.
- Aiming to build school staff’ skills and knowledge in terms of working with multicultural groups of children through consultation and assistance.
- Providing diverse ways to utilise leisure activities in order to build up social skills and knowledge in Icelandic among children with Icelandic as a second language.
Even though the main emphasis is on multiculturalism in school and leisure activities, institutions under the Department of Education and Youth are encouraged to apply for projects, other than those mentioned above, which are geared towards better and stronger school and leisure activities in Reykavik.
The School and Leisure Council’s Developmental Fund is allocated annually and each year has a set of aims based on the department’s work plan. Their objective is to support various projects which foster innovation, research or new changes within the educational and school structure of playschools, compulsory schools and organized leisure activities.
For more information about the rules and application, please contact Auður Árný Stefánsdóttir, Hildur Skarphéðinsdóttir and Soffía Pálsdóttir, field heads of the Reykjavik Department of Education and Youth.
Applications must be submitted to Reykjavik Department of Education and Youth, Borgartún 12, no later than October 1, 2013.
