Every year, at the Irish Days festival, the 'Icelander with the reddest hair' is selected. This year there were 10 contestants and the competition was tough. It was eventually the 30 year old Hafdís which won the jackpot.
It was the mayor of Akranes, Regína Ástvaldsdóttir, which crowned the winner. When visir.is talked to Hafdís yesterday, she claimed to be very happy with title:
"I loved it. I just walk all over the place and tell everyone I am the most red-haired Icelander".
She has always been proud of her hair color and the title was therefore very welcome.
Hafdís didn't go home empty handed from the competition as the prize was a trip for two to Ireland.
"I will go over there and find my Irish roots", Hafdís told visir.is.
