The Icelandic whale meat was left behind in Hamburg

Six containers with whale meat where left behind at the harbour in Hamburg when a ship that was supposed to transport them to Asia sailed away. The German customs made comments about the labeling but they have now approved the shipment, and the whale meat can be shipped to Asia.

The whale meat left Iceland and was shipped to Rotterdam where it was loaded aboard the large container ship Cosco Pride which is on route to Hong Kong. The ship made a stop in Hamburg and loaded more containers before it would sail to Asia. Greenpeace protested in Hamburg last week and emphasized that there were whale products on-board the ship.

The customs in Hamburg demanded information about the cargo and they reviewed waybills, according to the German paper Hamburger Abendblatt. The customs also ordered that the whale meat should be brought to land. The customs finally reached the conclusion that the waybills were alright and that the cargo could be shipped away, even though whale product trade is illegal in German. But then the ship Cosco Pride had sailed away and the containers where still in Hamburg. Another ship has therefore to be found.
