Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, the chairman of the Progressive party, will be the new Prime Minister of Iceland, but Bjarni Benediktsson, the chairman of the Independence party will be the Minister of Finance and Ecomonic Affairs.
The Finnish president, Sauli Niinistö will officially visit Iceland along with his wife, on May 28th - 29th. Various officials and experts on the Arctic will also accompany the president.

A Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of an Icelandic-Arctic Chamber of Commerce (IACC) was signed Wednesday, 24 April, by the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network and the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, the president of Iceland, has a birthday today and becomes 70 years old. Olafur was elected as the fifth president of Iceland in 1996. He began his fifth term last summer. Olafur will celebrate his birthday with his family today.
The chairmen of the Independence Party and the Progressive Party will meet again today, but the last few days have been used for gathering information so that the discussions can continue. It is not believed that other party members will be joining the discussions at this point.
The chairman of the Progressive party has finally revealed which party he wants to join him in government, to no surprise. Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson got the mandate from the president of Iceland to form a new government.
The far most likely government to be formed in Iceland, following the general elections that took place last Saturday, is considered to be one with the Progressive- and Independence parties together.
Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, chairman of the Progressive Party, and Bjarni Benediktsson, chairman of the Independence Party, discussed informally today the forming of a new government. This was confirmed by Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson, vice chairman of the Progressive Party when he talked to a local newspaper today.
From now on it is illegal for foreigners, with a permanent residence within the European Economic Area (EEA), to buy a real estate in Iceland unless the purchase is made because the person is going to legally reside or operate in Iceland.
