Jon Gnarr, the Mayor of Reykjavik, has signed an agreement with Ogmundur Jonasson, the minister of the interior, about Reykjavík Airport. Aircrafts with military purpose will no longer be allowed to land on the airport unless in case of emergency.

Jón Gnarr has now been the Mayor of Reykjavík for 1000 days, longer than the 7 last mayors before him. He has been accused of not taking his job seriously, being a comedian and all. But Jón still sits tight. He is proud of his contribution as mayor.

The Best Party and the Social Democratic Alliance have formed the majority in Reykjavik city for 1000 days today. Jon Gnarr, the mayor of Reykjavik, is the chairman of the Best Party. Mr. Dagur B. Eggertsson is a member of the city council for the Social Democratic Alliance.

Jacob Bundsgaard, Mayor of Aarhus Denmark, says that he really likes Jón Gnarr's idea to move his office, temporarily, to a suburb of the city that is for example the part of the city with the most immigrants. News of Iceland reported on the matter HERE. The Mayor of Aarhus could imagine doing something similar and move his office out of the city.

Mr. Jon Gnarr, the mayor of Reykjavik, said at a city board meeting yesterday that he likes hash joints. He was talking about his visit to Denver, Colorado, which is Reykjavik's sister city. Mr. Gnarr talked favorably about the joints and said that they enhanced job creation.

The Mayor of Reykjavik, Jon Gnarr, says that he will not give up until he gets his name legally recognized as a family name. His birth name is Jón Gunnar Kristinsson but he legally changed his name in 2005 to Jón Gnarr Kristinsson.

Wants to get to know other neighborhoods

Jon Gnarr, Mayor of Reykjavik, is known to be unorthodox and willing to experiment with almost anything. This time he has decided to move the Mayor's office, his secretary and other assistants, to a neighborhood pretty far from the center of Reykjavik. The purpose of it all, as his office announced, is to get to know the extensive operation that the City runs in Breiðholt, the highest populated neighborhood in Reykjavik.
