Former Mayor: "Muslims are Spreading around the World and we need to Stop them"

Ólafur F. Magnússon and Salmann Tamimi Ólafur F. Magnússon and Salmann Tamimi

"Muslims are Spreading around the World and we need to slow them down", said former mayor of Reykjavik Ólafur F. Magnússon when interviewed on Icelandic Radio talk show. The topic came up because of a mosque that is to be built in the city. Read more HERE.

The former mayor's exact words were: "Múslimar eru að dreifa sér um heiminn og við eigum að halda þeim í skefjum", which translates to something like 'Muslims are spreading around the world and we need to stop them or slow them down'. He said these words when discussing plans of the Muslim Association in Iceland to build a mosque in Reykjavik.

Ólafur then wrote an article in Morgunblaðið yesterday where he said among other things (roughly translated):

"It's a matter of grave concern that it seems to be no problem for Muslims in Iceland to finance such mosque here in Iceland with money from 'muslim/islamic promotion organizations' abroad. They could receive financial help from organizations that want to increase Islamic influence in Iceland as well as in other countries. That can be dangerous for our national culture and safety"

Salmann Tamini, spokesman for Muslims in Iceland said that the former mayor's position in this matter is sad. "I find it very sad that the former may9r goes forward with such propaganda. He seems to be unfamiliar with circumstances. Muslims have had a mosque in Iceland since 1997. Now we are planning to build a community center and the question is, what is this danger he talks about? That's what we don't understand and we find this sad", said Salmann.

Ólafur Magnússon said furthermore in the radio interview about what he thought was wrong with foreign organizations financing the mosque construction in Iceland:

"Everything. Islam is a religion with the goal to eliminate all other religions and spread all over the world. The experience in the Nordic countries shows that muslims are not adapting to society. This has become a huge problem, in Malmö [Sweden] for example The other day, a mosque was to be built on Trondheim [Norway], but the Norwegian authorities canceled the project because some Saudi-Arabian organization was to finance the whole thing."

Ólafur says that Muslims are spreading all over the world, which is a concern for everyone that believes in something else. "It's unfortunately a fact that Muslims are spreading all over the world, the West, the Nordic countries... and now even Iceland. We have to stop them. They should not receive anything beyond others".

Wants the Ásatrú Association to get this land

Ólafur is fine with the Muslims getting a modest mosque somewhere, but thinks it's outragious to give them a building site at a great place in Reykjavík's center. "At the same time we have the Ásatrú Association which is much bigger and has been in the country forever. They should have absolute and unconditional right to the best possible location (for a congregation) in the city. They were here before Christians pushed their ideology upon them. I want the Ásatrú Association to get this land, they deserve it."

Ólafur finally talks about Islam and how they treat women badly. Ólafur finds it strange and lousy how political movements in Iceand as well as feminists are so tolerant towards a religion that degrades all women.

Ólafur says that his opinion in the matter has nothing to do with racism.

"This has nothing to do with racism, this has to do with protecting women from abuse and protecting the nation and its culture."
