Perlan or The Pearl is a landmark building in Reykjavík. It is 25.7 metres (84.3 ft) high. A lease was signed today where the Icelandic Museum of Natural History finally gets a permanent place. The standard exhibition from the museum will be displayed in the Pearl in the fall 2014.

Icelandic National Day, 17th of June is a holiday in Iceland and celebrates the day in 1944 that The Republic of Iceland (Lýðveldið Ísland) was formed. The date of 17 June was chosen because it is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, a major figure of Icelandic culture and the leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement.

This colourful event brings tens of thousands of people into the city centre every year to show solidarity and have fun with the gay community in Reykjavik. Gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender people, friends, relatives, a fast growing number of tourists, and the general public all come together to celebrate and support human rights for all.

Puffins in Iceland

Iceland is home to one of the world's largest colonies of puffins. Over half of the world population of the Atlantic Puffin breeds in Iceland. It is estimated that around 3 million pairs breed in Iceland each year – that´s 6 million puffins but only 70% of the total are breeding birds. So the total population of puffins in Iceland is between 8 and 10 million birds.

As most people remember, the Icelandic handball team won the silver medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. What fewer people know about, is the memorial about their success at the Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavík. That's where a large silver sculpture representing the team is proudly displayed.

The owners of the Icelandic Phallus Museum recently got an offer for the museum from  German millionaire. The German offered a considerable amount of money, over 30 million ISK ($230,000, €180.000). This is not the first time that someone wishes to buy the remarkable Penis Museum.

The annual DesignMarch will be held this year from March 14th - 17th, in Reykjavik city. For these four days, Reykjavik will host hundreds of openings, exhibitions, workshops and events all over the city.
