The Icelandic National Football team has never before played an outdoor match in November in Iceland. It has been rainy, snowy, freezing, windy and everything in between throughout this month. But the field had to be perfect for the game. That was a demanding job for the field director.
The Football Association of Iceland rented a special heating canvas from England, which covered the field. Air was then pumped under the canvas to help make the grass underneath perfect.
On game day the field was in perfect condition and the Croatians even complimented all parties involved in making the field so good.
It started to snow just minutes after the match finished
The weather gods also helped during the game. Just throughout the 2 hours of the game, the weather was just perfect for playing football. Just after the game was finished, it started to snow. Two hours later the field was no longer in any playing condition.
Check out the video below to see how the canvas was put on the field and see when it was removed.
