Since the goal of spending 0.7% of Iceland´s GDP on development aid was set, it has never been met. The ratio was highest 0.4% in 2008, but the contribution is around 1300 to 4300 million ISK per year. The Icelandic government now plans to cut development aid next year. but last year the development aid was 0.22% of GDP.
The government intends to use the money on the health care system in Iceland instead. There has been a large criticism in Iceland because of this, and many people say that this is a disgrace. The government has greatly lowered taxes and fees on rich families and to make up for that they want the lower to middle class in Iceland, and the poorest people in the world, to make up for the lost revenue.
