Iceland won Slovenia today 35-34 in handball

The Icelandic national team has secured their place in the European Championship in Denmark, by winning Slovenia today. The game was played in Iceland, and the Icelanders won 35-34. The game was very exciting and Alexander Petersson scored the winning goal when only ten seconds were left of the game.

Icelandic Handball Player kicked off his German Team - "We are infinitely disappointed and extremely angry"

The German handball team Wetzlar broke and terminated today the contract they had with Icelandic National Handball Team player Kári Kristján Kristjánsson after Kári Kristján played with the National team on Wednesday night (when Iceland won). Kári has not played with Wetzlar since he had a back surgery in the end of February.

Icelandic handball player charged with breaking the currency laws

Mr. Markus Mani Michaelsson, former player for the Icelandic national team in handball, is among four people who have been charged with extensive violations of the currency laws, that were supposedly committed in 2009. The four men traded currency for 14 bn ISK ( around 88.5 million EUR at today's exchange rate) over an eight month period.

Iceland's participation in the 23rd Men's Handball World Championship 2013 is now over.

Iceland faced France in their final sixteen game tonight. They barely lost 28-30 after a very exciting game. The outcome was not clear until just about 1 minute before the game was out.

Denmark tought Iceland a lesson

Denmark versus their alter ego

The only two Scandinavian nations at the 23rd Men's Handball World Championship, Iceland and Denmark had their 4th, and second last, match in the preliminary round tonight. The final score was Iceland 28-36 Denmark.

Between both sides there are more similarities than differences. Fast breaks, combination game, fluent and fast attacks and effective wings as a great offensive resource are some of the points in common between both teams. But this time Iceland was somehow off and didn't seem to stand a chance against Denmark's superb offense. Mikkel Hansen and Hand Lindberg hardly ever had a problem scoring through or over the Icelandic defense.

Denmark's shot efficiency was 72% but Iceland's only 57%. Anders Eggert and Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson, both teams' left wings, are the top scorers of Denmark and Iceland, both with 22 goals.

Easy victory against Chile

First points for Iceland

Iceland easily defeated Chile at the 2013 Men's Handball World Championship. Final score was 38-22. The game seemed easy from minute one and coach Aron Kristjansson therefore let some of the younger, less experienced players exert themselves.
