GEST Joins the UN University Network

A trilateral agreement between the University of Iceland, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland and the UN Universities (UNU) was signed on 9 May 2013, formalising the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme’s (GEST) membership in the UNU network. lso close ties with the Center for Women´s and Gender Research at the University of Iceland. It is hosted by the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland.

He says that he can find all those who have the BRCA2 gene, in the Icelandic genetic database, but he is not allowed to let them know. He says that it is ruthless not to contact them.

Six students at Reykjavik University are developing a small plastic cube that is intended to shine a bright light if it touches date rape drugs. The cube is called safeCube and the group hopes to put it on the market soon.

Watanabe Trust fund - Three grantees en route to Japan

The Watanabe Trust fund allocated grants for the third time in April. This time two undergraduates in Japanese received a grant for studying in Japan; and a Professor at the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies at the UoI School of Humanites for research on the influence of the Icelandic Sagas in Japan; especially on the so-called Manga-cartoons.

University of Iceland: Strengthening of research on addiction

(University of Iceland) -- Representatives of the University of Iceland, the National Center of Addiction Medicine (SÁA) and deCode Genetics recently signed an agreement furthering teaching and research in the fields of Social Sciences and Health Science on addiction. This is a five year contract and two representatives from these institutions will form a joint committee to execute the agreement.

The game developer CCP Games and Reykjavik University have signed a contract regarding increased teachings and research in game design in Iceland. According to the contract CCP will sponsor one position for a professor at the computer science department at Reykjavik University. The contract is for five years.
