When 4 months are over of this year, departures of foreign visitors are 167,900, compared to 125,300 last year. This equals a 34% increase between years and the Icelandic tourism industry is obviously blooming. That is especially good news, considering that winter here used to be low season when it came to visitors. But travelers have opened their eyes to Northern Lights and other incredible things you can experience in Iceland during winter time.
Fewer Icelanders travel abroad
Fewer Icelanders traveled overseas this past April than April last year. Icelanders leaving Keflavik airport last April were 28,100 but in 2012 they were 28,900, a 3% decrease. The first 4 months of this year, 99,600 Icelanders left the country compared to 100,000 last year.
