EasyJet wants to test a new ash cloud technology and therefor came to Iceland to collect and bring back one thousand kilos of ash from Eyjafjallajökull glacier. The ash was collected by the Institute of Earth Sciences in Reykjavik.

Icelandair has announced it will begin scheduled flights to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on October 28, 2013. Icelandair has served the New York City area for over 60 years with flights to John F. Kennedy International (JFK) and will continue to do so. The Newark service is intended to supplement the JFK flights and will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

A total of 145 thousand passengers traveled with Icelandair this past March, 22% increase from March 2012. 31% more seats were offered this March and seat utilization was 79.3%, 1.7% less than a year ago.

Tourism continues to boom in Iceland. Never before have so many visitors traveled to Iceland during the two first months of the year, as in 2013. It is safe to say that the year 2013 starts with a boom, around 74.000 foreign visitors departed from Iceland in January and February 2013, compared to 54.100 departures last year. That is a 36% increase between years.

The British airline EasyJet has decided to double their operations in Iceland and plan to offer three routes between the UK and Iceland, all year round. They will fly between Iceland and London, Edinburgh and Manchester, a total of 11 times a week. Six times a week to and from London.

Four years ago, Iceland's International Keflavík Airport was voted the Best airport in Europe and in 2011 it was voted the Best small airport in Europe. This year, KEF Airport did not make it to the top three, but got 4th place.
