Professor Milton Friedman came to Iceland in 1984 to give a lecture at The University of Iceland. While in Iceland, he appeared on Icelandic State Television to debate with three left-wing intellectuals, one of them the current president of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson.

Friedman, one of the best known economists ever, was in Iceland to give a lecture on the "tyranny of the status quo" at the University of Iceland.

The following has been written about the debate: "The setup is interesting, with Friedman are three radically left-wing scholars who criticize him each at a time for everything from monetary policy to drug policy." We encourage you to watch the video from 1984 and judge for yourself.

Friedman died 94 years old in 2006.

Following is the video with the debate - the first 1 minute 20 seconds are in Icelandic.
