Possi­ble Volcanic Erupti­on in Ice­land - Earthquake Swarms

It has been over 3 years since the last eruption in Iceland. However, there are signs that an eruption might be in the works near remote Bárðarbunga - a powerful Icelandic volcano located on Vatnajökull glacier. Two major earthquake swarms have been measured since August 16th. Seismic acti­vity is of­ten the precursor of an erupti­on.

Warning! Mudflow, storm and rain!

We are so sorry. Once again the Icelandic Met Office is issuing weather warnings. Mudflows are possible in the Westfjords and Tröllaskagi peninsula in northern Iceland. Strong gusts by mountains and continuing rain is expected throughout the country, but fortunately the southwest should be mainly dry.
