The Nordic Olympic Weightlifting Championship took place in Vigrestad, Norway yesterday. Many Icelanders did very well and one gold, one silver and three bronzes were brought home.
Björk Óðinsdóttir was 3rd in her weight class and the first ever Icelandic woman to clean&jerk over 100 kg. They both set Icelandic records yesterday.
Þuríður Erla Helgadóttir received 4th place in the -63 kg weight class after a tough competition.
Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir competed in the -69 kg weight class with Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir. Katrín Tanja snatched 81 kg and got 88 kg in the clean&jerk - securing 2nd place. Ragnheiður Sara snatched 74 kg and clean&jerked 94 kg, earning bronze in her weight class. She barely missed the 96 kg c&j which would have been an Icelandic record.
Below you can see Katrín Tanja snatching 81 kg, setting an Icelandic record!
The same girls recently did extremely well at the European CrossFit Regionals in Denmark. Read more here.

Gísli Kristjánsson was in a very strong group where he won the snatch with the heaviest snatch this weekend, 145 kg. He then clean&jerked 160 kg but missed 165 kg which would have guaranteed him the silver and ended up in 3rd place. Still a great job. Gísli was b.t.w. the way oldest contestant this Saturday, but he turns 50 this year.
Stefan from Sweden had the same points as Gísli but weighed 150 grams less and therefore took the silver. Gísli is far right in the photo below:
Björgvin Karl competed in the 85 kg weight class and ended up in 5th place after snatching 116 kg and clean&jerking 141 kg.
Both Björgvin Karl and Björk Óðinsdóttir earned a spot at the Reebok CrossFit Games this summer. Extremely versatile and talented athletes!
The Icelandic Weightlifting Federation has never before sent so many Icelanders abroad to compete.
