The preliminary round for the 2014 Men's European Handball Championship has begun and Iceland faced Norway today. Long story short, Norway never stood a chance.
Iceland played superb defense, especially in the first half, which helped goalie Björgvin Páll Gústavsson close the goal, with 15 shots saved. Björgvin was selected man of the match. After 10 minutes the score was 8-2 and Iceland kept the lead throughout the game.
There are 4 groups in the preliminary rounds, each with 4 teams. Iceland is in group B with Norway, Spain and Hungary. A strong group, but nothing to worry about.

The top scorers for the Icelandic team were Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson with 9 goals and Ásgeir Örn Hallgrímsson with 5 goals.
