Icelandic Online 5 is a new web course in Icelandic

Icelandic Online 5, is a new web course in Icelandic as a second language for advanced students. Emphasis is placed on more complex vocabulary and cultural literacy. Icelandic Online 5 is the latest addition to the Icelandic Online courses that have been offered by the University of Iceland for the last decade.

Thousands of students in Icelandic have made use of these courses; both as a self-study and in connection with courses in Icelandic; both in Iceland and abroad.

In the new course emphasis is placed on advanced vocabulary in Icelandic as a second language and to develop their understanding of Icelandic culture. The course is divided into thirteen different chapters that each contain a lecture, diverse texts from Icelandic media and literature, and a substantial number of exercises to work with the vocabulary in question.

Icelandic Online 5 is a co-operative venture of the programme Icelandic as a second language at the University of Iceland, Centre for Research in the Humanities, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages, The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, the University of Bergen and the University of Helsinki. Olga Holownia, Daisy L. Neijmann and Jón Karl Helgason are content editors and Mark Berge supervises technical aspects.

The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, Reykjavík Museum of Photography, and numerous authors have contributed to this project; which has furthermore received funding from the Nordplus sprog Programme and the University of Iceland Teaching fund.
